Hijab & Modesty in Islam
Modesty (Haya) is a core value in Islam, extending beyond dress to behavior, speech, and character. The concept of hijab (حجاب) literally means "covering" or "barrier" and is often used to refer to modest dress for Muslim women.
Women's Hijab
Many Muslim women choose to wear a headscarf as an expression of faith, modesty, and identity. The style and extent of covering varies widely across cultures and personal interpretation.
Men's Modesty
Islamic modesty standards also apply to men, including guidelines on dress (covering from navel to knee at minimum) and behavior.
Modesty as a Value
Beyond clothing, Islamic modesty encompasses humility, avoiding arrogance, guarding one's speech, and conducting oneself with dignity in all situations.
